A message from Wendy Tucker, founder and Board Member, Shulgin Foundation
There have been some positive changes over the past few months at the Shulgin Foundation, and I’m very excited to tell you about the most recent ones. This share is a testament to our growth, development, and our progress.
First, just a bit of background for those who just joined: I started on this journey to preserve the Shulgins’ home and iconic lab after my mother Ann died in 2022. In 2023, I was introduced to Peter Vitale as someone who could help me do that. He and I went through a lot to figure out the best structure to preserve the Shulgin Farm. We eventually landed on a nonprofit, and the Shulgin Foundation was officially created. Since then, our organization has grown, we have a great team, and we have done a lot of things to not only improve and preserve the Farm, but also to have community events, tours, and classes, and to provide a place for people to gather in community.
Fast-forward two years, and it’s finally time for me to step out of the position of running the Foundation. I have been wearing many hats: Executive Director of the Foundation, Board Member, and property manager of the Farm — and it is time to share the load. I plan to remain on the Board of Directors so that there’s representation from the family, and help steer this beautiful vessel into the future.
So, it is with a lot of happiness that we welcome our new Interim Executive Director, Megan Bowers, to the Shulgin Foundation! Megan is wonderful, and very skilled, and I feel like I’m passing the baton to somebody who’s going to really help the Foundation thrive, and to move the mission forward. And, she’s a very thoughtful and nice person on top of all of that. I am truly happy about this change, it’s what we have been aiming for for a long while.
Also in the spirit of change, I wanted to share that Peter Vitale is transitioning out of his role of advisor to the Foundation, and will continue on as our attorney and advisor for the Shulgin Family Trust. He has been such a driving force for the Foundation in fundraising, creating programs and events, and getting the word out about our mission, and we’re all incredibly grateful for his many contributions in bringing this project to life. I’m not sure I could’ve done all of this without Peter‘s help, he has been instrumental to our success. Like me, Peter is transitioning out of the Foundation but will still be working to support the mission of preserving Sasha and Ann’s great legacies through our work with the Trust.
So it’s all good news! I’m so happy that we’ve gotten to this point, where we can expand our team and move towards fulfilling our goals, and move into the future where the Shulgin Foundation can steward the Farm and the Shulgin legacy. This is what we’ve been wanting and working toward, and here it is. Step by step.
With Gratitude,
Wendy Tucker
