MDMA: From Molecule to Movement: A Shulgin Archive Exhibition

DATE: Ongoing
TIME: Open During the Berkeley Alembic's Opening Hours

LOCATION: The Berkeley Alembic

The Shulgin Foundation presents MDMA, From Molecule to Movement at the Berkeley Alembic.

Through the artistic lens of Bay Area visual artists Hanif Wondir and Domini Anne, the exhibit brings visitors inside Sasha's laboratory, featuring artifacts from his bench and previously unseen documents from the Shulgin Archive that trace MDMA's challenging path toward becoming the therapeutic substance it is today.

The exhibition is on view during all Alembic open hours, with The Psychedelic History of the Shulgins: An Archival Retrospective scheduled for May 17.

The Alembic is located at 2820 Seventh Street, Berkeley, CA.

This project was supported financially by the UC Berkeley Center for the Science of Psychedelics (BCSP) and its Psychedelics in Society and Culture initiative, funded by Flourish Trust.

3-Part Series: Ceremonial Synthetics with Zach Leary

DATE: Tuesdays: April 21, May 19, & June 23
TIME: 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM PT / 8:00 PM - 9:30 PM ET
LOCATION: Online
Join us for a three part discussion on the history, cultural narrative and ceremonial but practical use of synthetic psychedelic compounds.

In today's psychedelic climate, ceremonial use is most often associated with plant medicines that have their roots in ancient indigenous rituals and cultures. As we see the modern use of psychedelic medicines expanding to a larger population it’s vital that we apply ceremonial intentionality and frameworks to all the psychedelic compounds, even those of the synthetic variety. Just because compounds like MDMA and 2CB don’t have hundreds of years human connection behind them doesn’t mean that we can’t use them with the same sense of mystery and wonder as we do our ancient predecessors.

Zach will take us through a three part online workshop in which he will break down the following three topics. The Shulgins influence on not just the creation of synthetic compounds but also on their most profound uses creates the framework for so much of this discussion.

  • Part 1: The history of synthetics: how they made their way to the world stage, their origin stories and how drug war propaganda fueled mass stigmatization and disinformation around their use.
  • Part 2: Course correction: through science and research, endless amounts of personal transformations and sound education, we have started to see a shift in how these compounds are talked about. No longer are they reckless party drugs, rather they are powerful tools to aid in transformation and healing. This segment of the workshop will talk about the changing narrative and how it applies to today.
  • Part 3: Into action: how can the synthetic compounds be infused into a meaningful parts of one's healing journey? The third and final part of the workshop will talk about how one can use synthetic compounds in a ceremonial way that is full of intention, ritual and respect. Whether you are a facilitator or a psychonaut this section will be full of practicality, methodology and reflections from the front lines of transformational psychedelic healing.

Those interested in going deeper can explore his 8-week Psychedelic Studies Intensive Program (use referral code SHULGIN when completing the form).

Oral Histories: The Hidden Impact of Women Edition

DATE: Sunday, June 28
TIME: 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM PT
LOCATION: In-Person & Online

Join us at the Shulgin Farm for an intimate conversation to learn directly from those who shaped the movement’s foundations.

This in-person interview features Maria Mangini of The Shulgin Foundation and Denis Berry, whose vital role in psychedelic preservation is almost completely unknown. This event will also be livestreamed.

Much of the record of psychedelic history has been erased, forgotten, or never formally recorded — clandestine out of necessity. As the president of Timothy Leary’s Futique Trust, Denis was responsible for a remarkable achievement in preserving the records of the adventures of the twentieth century. As we move toward the establishment of a similar archival resource of materials documenting the remarkable history of the Shulgin Farm, Denis’ story is particularly relevant.

This series of interviews focuses on capturing the history of the missing decades of underground practice and recognition of the mentors and elders who have carried this wisdom forward. This specific conversation invites those newer to the field, especially aspiring therapists, guides, researchers, and community leaders, to learn directly from those who shaped the movement’s foundations, especially the women. Together, we’ll reflect on what it means to actualize our revelations about interconnectedness—not only in theory, but in how we live, heal, and serve.

This conversation will include a Q&A portion at the end.

Psychedelics & the Whole Self: A Gathering for Womxn

DATE: Saturday, July 25
TIME: 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM PT
LOCATION: In-Person

What does it mean to truly know your body? Beyond the data; its cycles, its wisdom, its edges?

Join us at the historic Shulgin Farm for an intimate afternoon gathering at the intersection of women's health, hormones, and psychedelic-informed healing. This is a salon in the truest sense: part education, part conversation, part communion.

Our featured speaker, Stephanie Karzon Abrams — neuropharmacologist and founder of Beyond Consulting and co-creator of GALILEA®, a community and psychedelic-informed method. She is a leading voice in integrative women's health and will open the Salon with a 30-minute mini-course drawing on her groundbreaking framework: a psychedelic-informed, hormone-aware approach to care that honors the full complexity of the female body across every life stage.

For more insight into her work and the GALILEA® framework, Salon creator and host April Pride and Stephanie Karzon Abrams will flow into a candid conversation, followed by an open Q&A and an experiential closing with complimentary tea from Gypsy Catcher. You'll leave with new language for your body, a deeper sense of connection with the women around you, and a few tools to carry into your healing journey.

Space is limited to 50 women. Come as you are — curious, questioning, or quietly ready for something more.
