Today, June 17, what would have been Sasha’s 101st birthday, we are thrilled to share something we have been quietly working on with our friends at DanceSafe.
Years ago, after Ann’s passing, the Shulgin Foundation gave DanceSafe a box of broken glass from Sasha’s laboratory. Some of it had likely held the first batches of MDMA and 2C-B before either compound had a name beyond a number in his notebooks. That glass sat for years until a group of artisans saw an opportunity in it: to take what was broken and make something whole again.
The result is the Sasha Shulgin Legacy to Artistry Laboratory Glass Project, a collection of art pieces crafted from the original lab glass. Three artisans worked directly with the material, and each piece comes with a certificate of authenticity and full chain of title back to the Farm.
The collection releases in three batches. The first arrives today, on Sasha’s birthday. The second comes on July 4, the anniversary of Sasha and Ann’s wedding. The third follows in mid-August.
This is not a typical sale. Because of what this glass represents, DanceSafe is asking anyone interested in a piece to submit a short statement of interest rather than simply buying on a first come basis. They want each piece to land with someone who understands what it carries.
All proceeds are split evenly between the Foundation and DanceSafe, supporting two organizations that, in their own ways, have spent decades trying to make Sasha’s discoveries safer and more understood.
